Director of Programming
The Brooklyn International Film Festival



Long Island University Brooklyn seeks a Director of Programming for a new international film festival launching in November 2019. The Director of Programming executes the artistic vision of the film festival, and is responsible for securing and planning the highest quality program of films, panels & special events. The Director of Programming also works with the Executive Director, staff members, volunteers, and production teams to coordinate and plan events, seasonal schedules, activities, and tasks directly & indirectly associated with the film festival.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage the annual process of programming official selections for the film festival to include, but not limited to, call for entries, screening process, programming, notification process, print traffic & projection, juried awards, panels & workshops, special guests & presentations, wrap-up & evaluation, and associated events.
• Recruit, train, and organize volunteer programmers & screeners, and film hosts as needed.
• Stay current on trends and issues within the independent film industry. Cultivate and maintain relationships with key film community professionals, including film talent, studios, publicists, producers, agents and managers, etc., in New York, Los Angeles and throughout the world.
• Work with the Executive Director to develop & engage diverse audiences, expand income sources, and build national recognition for the film festival.
• Coordinate with festival staff to ensure accurate program record keeping, up-to-date policies & procedures, and clear communications.
• Contribute to newsletters & social media, participate in organizational planning and program development & evaluation, and raise awareness of & promoting the mission, vision, and values of the film festival.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepare and deliver presentations at festival events, to service and business organizations, at industry gatherings, and various festival training sessions.
• Coordinate with operations team to facilitate the highest quality film viewing experience.
• Oversee all aspects of juried awards to ensure a professional, accurate, and fair awards program.
• Manage the development and production of festival panels and workshops.
• Supervise the development and content of festival Souvenir Program and website content; writing and editing as needed.
• Work with sponsorship and fundraising in relation to the production and delivery of programs and events.
• Prepare engaging film introductions, and professionally moderate film Q&A sessions.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications: Four-year college degree in a relevant field. Five or more years of professional experience and increased responsibility as a film programmer with demonstrated management responsibilities & skills; experienced Director of Programming preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of independent film, the film industry, and key trends. Abundant international contacts among filmmakers, talent, producers, distributors, sales agents and publicists. Excellent writing & public speaking skills. Available to work in the LIU Brooklyn office at least six months of the year. The ability to manage shifting and competing priorities, exercise good judgment and discretion; flexibility in projects and schedules; attention to detail; self-starter; superior organizational skills. Ability to execute projects efficiently and according to schedule. Ability to work independently and to maintain a positive work atmosphere and professional relationships.
