The incumbent will serve as the primary fundraising officer to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects to increase support for the School of the Arts' graduate and undergraduate Film programs and related pedagogical priorities. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Development, the incumbent will work closely with the faculty and Dean of the School, the Senior Associate Director of Development, the Associate Director for Foundation Relations, and other University colleagues as appropriate. 

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

-- Identify and develop new relationships with corporate prospects, focused on the film and media industries. Partner with the Chair, and the faculty and staff of the Film Division, to deepen these connections on behalf of the University. 
-- Develop proposals for corporate support, working with the University's offices of Alumni and Development and Sponsored Projects as needed. 
? Manage the fundraising strategy for a portfolio of corporate prospects; secure significant institutional funding in long term support of scholarships, capital needs, prizes and special projects. 
-- Serve as the primary development officer to raise funds to support the Columbia University Film Festival. He/she will be responsible for increasing festival sponsorship through the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors 
-- Develop a portfolio of up to 75 corporate partners. Qualify prospects, cultivate potential contributions, develop solicitation strategies, identify gift opportunities that match donors' interests, personally solicit gifts and provide effective stewardship. He/she will make 100 personal visits and 30 solicitations per year. 
-- In consultation with the Associate Dean for Development and in cooperation with the Development Associate, ensure that the processing, acknowledgements, awarding and stewardship of gifts are completed in an accurate and timely manner. 
-- Work in consultation with the Associate Dean to launch and staff the Columbia Film Program Leadership Circle, a committee of volunteers from corporate entities who will assist the Program with outreach and engagement of key supporters 
-- Perform special projects and liaison functions as required. 

Other related duties as assigned. 


-- Bachelor's degree required. 
-- Minimum 4 to 6 years of fundraising, marketing, or client-management/business development experience required. 
-- Ability to handle a multitude of tasks under the pressure of deadlines and work in a high-volume, high-demand office. Must be creative, enterprising, persuasive, and tactful. 
-- Must have demonstrated leadership skills and be able to work successfully as part of a team. 
-- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Must have the ability to both lead and work in a flexible, team environment. 
-- Some evenings, weekends and travel are required. 
-- Experience in business development in the Film or Media Industry preferred.  

-- Demonstrated track record in soliciting five and six-figure gifts or relevant corporate experience. 
-- Ability to think creatively in order to actively contribute to strategic planning. 
-- Outstanding strategic thinking and analytical skills. 
-- Strong organizational and follow through abilities. 
-- Project management experience. 
-- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
-- A commitment to film, the arts, and higher education. 
-- An ability to make a compelling case in support of the Film Program. 
-- Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed. 
-- Outstanding interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and experience handling highly confidential information. 
-- High energy level, enthusiasm, flexibility and an entrepreneurial spirit absolutely required.
